Find out how to win the war for digital tech talent at engage.talent summit

By Housing News

For companies in mortgage, the importance of hiring top digital talent has grown exponentially over the last decade. Unfortunately, so has the competition. Job postings for emerging tech roles increased 74% in 2018 compared to 2017, and 11 states saw increases of 100% or more. That’s one reason the unemployment rate for tech workers nationally dropped to 1.3% in May 2019 — the lowest number ever.

That’s no surprise to those trying to recruit top tech talent in the mortgage space, who also have to battle the perception that the mortgage industry is behind the curve in tech innovation. That’s why we’re bringing together digital recruiting experts as part of our engage.talent summit on Feb. 6 in Dallas.

Our engage.talent panel on Hiring Digital Talent in a Competitive Market will feature Ashley Burnstad, head of people at Roostify, Romi Mahajan, chief marketing officer at Quantarium, Matthew Turner, executive talent acquisition strategist at United Wholesale Mortgage, and Randy Wheeler, managing director of talent acquisition at Charles Schwab.

All of them are successfully recruiting talent in places where the competition includes some of the biggest brands in technology:

  • Burnstad started her career in Vancouver and has been recruiting in the Bay area for the past four years for Roostify, which serves dozens of lending institutions across the nation, with $11 billion of loans originated monthly.
  • As a former director at Microsoft, Mahajan has extensive experience in overseeing tech talent and continues to position his company for success in the Seattle area, the cloud capital of the country and home to Microsoft and Amazon.
  • Turner has more than 13 years of technical recruiting experience and currently leads and mentors a pod of IT recruiters at United Shore, the No. 1 wholesale lender in the country.
  • Wheeler has more than 20 years of experience in high-volume recruiting environments for some of the largest semiconductor, banking, financial services and life insurance organizations in the world. At Charles Schwab he leads hiring for the company’s technology and digital accelerator teams in San Francisco, Denver and Austin.

A trademark of HousingWire’s engage events is providing actionable insight that can be immediately relevant to your business, and this session at engage.talent is no different. Our expert panelists will share what has been most effective in winning tech talent and the priorities these potential employees value most, allowing them to compete effectively against household brands even in tech hubs like the Bay Area, Denver and Austin.
